Assembly session under fire

YOGYAKARTA: A group of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) under the Forum LSM Yogyakarta criticized the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Monday for failing to produce concrete results on agrarian reform during its annual session.

In its two-page statement, the group announced its motion of non-confidence to the outcome of the Rp 25.7 billion session.

"None of those involved in the Annual Session talked about the people's real problem. They were just quarreling for political power instead," the group said in the statement, made available to The Jakarta Post.

"What they did was only wasting people's money," the statement signed by Damar Dwi Nugroho read.

The group regretted the Assembly for failing to fulfill its promise to push the Annual Session to endorse a decree on the reform of agrarian law. (44)
