Aspiring actress cries foul

JAKARTA: A 39-year-old man was reported to the police on
Sunday by Anita Mulyani, 21, who accused him of posing as a
director and falsely promising to give her a role in his
television soap opera.

The woman told police that Yayan Suryana, the alleged bogus
director, swindled her out of Rp 4.5 million (about US$553.50).

Anita said Yayan introduced himself as a film and television
director and assured her that she could have a role in his
current project if she paid an administration fee of Rp 4.5
million at Pink Production House on Jl. Raya Caman in Bekasi,
West Java.

According to the police report, the aspiring actress made the
payment on May 6, 2003, witnessed by her friend, identified as
Amin.

Anita claims that Yayan received the payment directly but
continued to delay the soap opera shoot, citing bad weather as
the reason.

Anita eventually demanded that Yayan return her money.
However, the suspect fled his house.

Police said they would investigate the matter.--Antara
