'Asinan' makers aim to break record
JAKARTA: The biggest serving of Asian Betawi, a traditional raw vegetable salad, will be featured at the 2004 Ibis Street Festival at Ibis Tamarin Hotel, Jl. Wahid Hasyim, Central Jakarta, on Sept. 11.
Andriana Hendrawati, promotion and communication manager of the Accor Hotel Group, the organizer of the event, said on Thursday that 23 chefs of the hotel, led by Sous Chef Jajang Mulyana, would make 2,147 kilograms of Asinan Betawi.
The Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) is expected to recognize it as the largest amount of Asinan Betawi ever prepared in Indonesia or in the world.
"This activity is aimed at introducing traditional cuisine to the international community," Andriana said.
Ten Asinan Betawi street vendors will join in the festival.
The food will be made in two hours and placed in a 10-meter long boat placed in front of the hotel. -- JP
