Asia Pacific rectors to meet in Surabaya

SEMARANG, Central Java: President Abdurrahman Wahid is scheduled to be one of the key speakers at a three-day meeting of Asia Pacific university rectors which begins in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday.

Chairman of the Indonesian Rectors' Forum (FRI), Eko Buhardjo said here that the meeting was jointly organized by the forum and the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).

Eko, who is also the rector of state-owned Diponegoro University, said the meeting titled Empowering University Small/Medium Enterprise Partnership: Living Together in Global Village, will discuss a wide range of relevant issues including intellectual rights and their legal aspects, especially in developed countries, inter-campus technology sharing and cross cultural business communication.

Other speakers at the meeting are Higher Education Director General Satriyo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, rector of the Bandung Institute of Technology Liliek Hendradjaja, Narudin Alie of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Yasuyuki Aoshima from the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and speakers from South Korea, Japan and the United States.(har/lup)
