Artwork on display at UGM library
YOGYAKARTA: At least 20 contemporary artists are displaying their creations in the main library of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Bulaksumur.
The exhibition is entitled "Read" and features 50 pieces created by artists like Nindityo Adipurnomo, Mella Jaarsma, Agung Kurniawan, Anusapati, Bambang Toko Witjaksono, Bunga Jeruk, Popok Tri Wahyudi, Krisna Murti and Tisna Sanjaya. It has been organized by the Cemeti Art House in cooperation with the university's library,
Nindityo, from the Cemeti Art House, told reporters here on Wednesday that the exhibition would run through Oct. 15 in hopes bringing the art closer to the academic community.
The library was chosen as the venue for what they have termed a "site-specific project" because in a library one may learn about various ideas, thoughts, imagination, perception and interpretation of people from different generations.
"Read" was first exhibited in the British Council's Library in Jakarta from July to September 2002 and then at the Cemeti Art House in Yogyakarta in April 2003. -- JP
