Arts festival begins on Sunday

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The administration here is holding the Al-Kautsar Festival of traditional arts from Sunday to Wednesday, Antara reported.

Organizing chairwoman Norma Kaimoeddin said here on Friday that the festival would, among others things, feature traditional drums, including the drum from the Wolio Buton mosque, which is the oldest drum in the province.

She said the drum, mostly used to mark the time for prayer, was estimated to be 300 years old and showed the growth of Islam here.

There will also be a calligraphy contest, she said.
