Artists protest closure of Sobokarti

SEMARANG: Five septuagenarian gamelan artists held a performance
as a form of protest on Saturday in front of the Sobokarti Art
Center, the main performing arts venue in the city.

The five musicians, who used to perform at the center, were
protesting the Sobokarti Foundation's plan to close the 75-year-
old theater on Jl. Dr. Cipto for sale to a third party.

Sosro Widarso, one of the musicians and chairman of the
Sobokarti Artists Association, said the building should not be
sold to a third party, as it was a historical building. -- JP
