Artist's guitars stolen, sold cheap

JAKARTA: Five thieves were arrested by the police for breaking into the house of guitarist Benny Panjaitan of Panbers group in Karawaci, Tangerang, and stealing four guitars late April. Two of them were arrested earlier this week.

The arrest was made possible after the police received a tipoff that suspects Daryono and Dedi Setiawan had sold two Gibson electric guitars, a Yamaha acoustic guitar and a Galveston acoustic guitar for Rp 250,000 (US$28.9) each at the Jatinegara flee market, Central Jakarta. They also stole two television sets and an stereo system set in the same break-in.

Three other suspects Gendeng, Sugi and Kenyung are still at large.

Daryono said at the city police headquarters on Thursday that he had no idea that the guitars could be worth more. -- JP
