Artists, fans appeal for aid
As countries affected by the Dec. 26 tsunami move ahead with their national and international efforts toward reconstruction, artists, musicians, film industries and even sports events continued to generate funds across the world.
In Canada, the Mennonite Church put on an art exhibition in their heritage gallery to help tsunami survivors, resident Indonesian artists and their families back home. Meanwhile, teenagers in Fairhope, Alabama, organized their own exhibit to raise funds and Sandford parish in Dublin held a charity concert.
Top musicians -- classical, jazz, rock, country and indie -- are also generating funds to channel through relief organizations, from Bangkok to Mumbai, from Istanbul to Glasgow and from Vancouver to Austin.
And more help is on its way as Yusuf Islam -- formerly Cat Stevens -- and Michael Learns to Rock arrive in Jakarta next week.
In the face of tragedy, world artists -- and their fans -- have united in a spirit of hope to show that where there is a need, they will respond.
