Artist : The Wallflowers Album : Rebel, Sweetheart

It turns out, apples do fall far from the tree. The Wallflowers' singer-guitarist Jakob Dylan may have folk legend Bob Dylan as his biological father, but his greatest musical inspiration for years has been the working class hero, Bruce Springsteen.

However, it took four albums for the young Dylan to conceive a sound that comes close to Springsteen's classics. Dylan's previous works in impressive sophomore record Bringing Down the Horse and third album Breach had Springsteen's poetry splashed over layers of guitar tracks.

Rebel, Sweetheart, the Wallflowers' fifth record is the farthest Dylan could ever go into Springsteen's sonic domain.

Opening track Days Of Wonders has four guitars tracks dubbed onto an intro to make it sound like Springsteen's Born To Run. Nearly Beloved is an Appalachian stomp with Dylan's husky vocal hitting the note regularly belted out by the Boss.

Being compared to other artists could be an insult, but when the reference is Springsteen, it is a compliment. -- M. Taufiqurrahman
