Artist: Alanis Morissette Album: Jagged Little Pill Acoustic (Maverick/Warner)
In 1995, an angry young woman burst onto the global music scene with a raw and edgy album that went on to sell 30 million copies and become one of the biggest-selling albums in history.
That angry woman was 21-year-old Canadian Alanis Morissette and the album, Jagged Little Pill, which many detractors said was more screeched than sung, nevertheless struck a chord with countless people worldwide as evidenced by the fact that it was voted Billboard's Top Pop Album of the 1990s.
However, her subsequent releases like Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, Under Rug Swept and So-Called Chaos never quite managed to scale the heights that Pill did.
So, marketing being what it is, is it really so surprising that on the 10th anniversary of Pill, she decided to release an acoustic version of the same 13 songs that shot her to the stratosphere so long ago?
More harmonic and melodious, Jagged Little Pill Acoustic is definitely mellower than the original, reflecting the matured Morissette herself.
After all, now that she's a multi-millionaire 30-something Grammy winner, it would seem a little ridiculous if she remained as pissed off with the world as she was a decade ago, wouldn't it? -- The Star/Marc Lourdes
