Art expo to be held at Erasmus Huis

JAKARTA: A Flemish artist, Rudi Corens, will present a contemporary jewelry, carpet and sculpture exhibition at the Erasmus Huis Dutch cultural center in South Jakarta, for a week, starting from Thursday evening.

At the end of the exhibition titled Curls and Waves on May 30, a batik fashion show by Apip Syakur will be held to say goodbye to Luc Darras, the Belgian Ambassador, and his wife.

Rudi, who was born in Antwerp, has lived and worked in Yogyakarta since 1991. He studied at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Antwerp and taught at the School of Letters and School of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta.

His works have been on display in Belgium, the Netherlands, Chechnya, Sri Lanka, Singapore and India.

He has been inspired by a great variety of original ethnic Indonesian motifs, using materials such as silver, precious stones, shells, coconuts, ivory and wild boar teeth.

The exhibition is slated to be opened by art lover and expert Pia Alisjahbana. --JP
