Art entourage visits Africa

JAKARTA (JP): An entourage comprising city dancers and musicians is visiting two African countries to give a series of performances, the head of the City Cultural Affairs Office, H. Azhari Baedlawie, said yesterday.

Azhari was quoted by Antara as saying that the visit was arranged by the Jakarta Arts Council in cooperation with his office.

The entourage, led by council leader Salim Said, left Saturday for Cairo, Azhari said.

He said that the group would be in Cairo, Egypt, from Aug. 9 to Aug. 16 and in Lagos, Nigeria, from Aug. 17 to Aug. 21.

The visit was organized in response to an invitation from the Lagos Art Council and the Indonesian Embassy to Egypt in conjunction with the commemoration of the 50th year of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Egypt, he said.

Dancers and choreographers in the entourage include Yulianti Parani, Nungki Kusumastuti, Wiwiek Sipala, Tri Sapto, I Wayan Diya, and actor Adi Kurdi. (hhr)
