Army to punish errant soldiers
BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Chief of Tanjungpura Military Command Maj. Gen. Hadi Waluyo promised on Friday to punish those officers under his command who have been backing illegal mining and logging activities in Kalimantan, Antara reported.
Hadi, who was appointed to the post last month, said he would not tolerate any criminal act within his command as it would taint the image of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
The command oversees all four Kalimantan provinces.
Hadi called on the help of the public to report any military men involved in illegal activities.
Widespread illegal logging and mining have threatened the sustainability of Kalimantan's tropical rainforests. (07)
