It was encouraging to read of Ayu Utami's emergence as a new
Indonesian literary talent.

But how sad to read in Prasetyohadi's article, April 5, that
he attributed Armijn Pane's novel Belenggu (published in 1940) to
"distinguished author Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana in 1933", clearly
the level of literary criticism and review also languishes in
(quoting Prasetyohadi) the "shadow of prevailing doom".
