Armed robbery in daylight

BOGOR (JP): Five armed robbers ransacked the house of Hery Purnomo, 57, a resident of Jl. Bitung in Haurjaya, Tanah Sareal district on Friday at noon, police said.

The robbers, pretending to be guests of the house, arrived in a green metallic Kijang van, bearing license plate number F 1278 FJ, and parked the car in front of Hery's residence.

"Two men knocked on the front door and when I opened it they jumped at me and put a sickle to my neck," Hery told the police later in the day.

"The robbers also had a machete and told me not to move. A few moments later, my wife came out to check what was happening and they nabbed her too," Hery said.

Both Hery and his wife were bound with tape and had their mouths sealed. The group then entered the bedroom and grabbed all the valuable belongings, then took off with Rp 840,000 in cash, the registration documents of a Kijang Van, license number B 2141 BR, a cellular phone, a 50-gram piece of gold jewelry and a car radio.

The robbers sped off in their car. Soon afterward Hery and his wife managed to free themselves and report the incident to the police.
