Armed robbers get away with hundreds of millions
BOGOR (JP): Bogor Police are on the hunt for four men in connection with the armed robbery of hundreds of millions of rupiah from the Gede Agung Bagus (GAB) Money Changer on Jl. Siliwangi on Friday evening.
The money changer's cashier and one of its security guards sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.
The robbers fled with a large bag containing rupiah banknotes and foreign currency, after shooting the cashier's right hand.
The same bullet which pierced the hand of the cashier, identified as Luciana, 35, proceeded to wound the right thigh of the security guard, identified as Achmad Khotib, 46, who was positioned behind the cashier when the incident occurred.
Luciana's colleague, Shanti, said that the robbers appeared very professional.
"They must have followed and watched us every time we cashiers stored the cash at the head office of the money changer on Jl. Siliwangi No. 70," Shanti, 27, told reporters at the PMI Bogor general hospital, where the injured were being treated.
Shanti said that on Friday evening Achmad and Luciana had taken a company vehicle, an Isuzu Panther driven by Panca, to transport the cash from the money changer's agency on Jl. Surya Kencana.
"The bag contained, among other currencies, rupiah banknotes worth Rp 51 million (US$5,300), as well as thousands of Australian, American and Singaporean dollars," Shanti said.
She said that when Achmad and Luciana reached the Siliwangi office two men on an RX-King motorcycle approached them. Suddenly, one of the men, who was thin, had a moustache and wore a sports cap, fired a weapon.
"Suddenly I saw both Luciana and Achmad floored, crying in pain and covered in blood. The bag was gone with the men," Shanti said.
Panca added that there was also two other men on another motorcycle parked at the side of the road. He said he could not memorize the number plate of the green motorbike.
"The two men who attacked Ibu Luci sped towards Jl. Sukasari," the driver said.
Luciana said that although she was the company's cashier she did know the amount of the money she had been transporting. (21/ylt)
