Arjuna gets first bath in 15 years

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration on Friday conducted a clean up of the Arjuna Wijaya statue, located at the Bank Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta.

The City Parks Agency Chief Dadang Ruskandar said that this is the first time in 18 months that the statue has been cleaned.

A private company PT Kawan Lama Sejahtera agreed to finance the activity.

"The company paid and supplied for all of the equipment needed for the clean up. The company provided the spraying equipment, paid the fee of the officers and we supplied some 10,000 liters of water for it," Dadang said.

He said the cleaning took five hours and started at 1 p.m. with four other officers working on it.

The Arjuna Wijaya statue depicts the legendary Arjuna riding a chariot with eight horses during the famous Bharatayudha War. The statue was crafted by the famous artist from Bali, Nyoman Nuarta. (dja)
