Are bullets necessary?

From Suara Karya

Suara Karya ran a story on Sept. 9, 1996, entitled Crazed man shot to death. The story said that "S", aged 70, from Indramayu, had to be shot by an official (a policeman?) because he ran berserk in the vicinity of Bulak Kapal, Bekasi.

The old man, shot twice after warning shots, died with a bullet in his back and another in his shoulder.

The news item did not explain whether the old man carried a sharp object, or any other dangerous weapon.

If the deceased was unarmed, and no weapons were found on him, was it really necessary to shoot and kill him? Those assigned to such jobs are usually trained in self defense, and should have caught him alive.

We would appreciate more news on this case.
