Archeologists find Dutch relics

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: A team of archeologists have found some historical relics, identified as Dutch in origin, along Martapura River here, Antara reported Saturday.

Harry Widianto, head of the Banjarmasin archeological office, said the relics included ceramic plates, bottles and some coins. Earlier, the team found the remains of a ship buried in the riverbed.

The exploration is scheduled to end today.

"A study of the archeological relics will be conducted, the results of which will be announced."

He said the excavation was carried out after some residents discovered several historical relics on Jl. Pierre Tendean, not far from the riverbank.

An old house built in the 1900s was also found at the same site as the Dutch relics. (swe)
