Applying the three Cs

While observing recent political events leading up to the most democratic event ever to be held, the upcoming presidential election, we could evaluate political aspirants through all kinds of management theories, from the very basic, applying local principles or the proven and sophisticated theories adapted from developed countries.

Some concepts are still applicable such as the 3Cs: Commitment, consistency and consequentiality. It goes without saying, that Indonesian people are very bright and are fast to give commitments, but are extremely weak in and sometimes do not have any consistency or awareness of the consequences of their actions.

A lot of laws, regulations, acts and decrees are enacted every month. We are a nation full of guidelines. However we can observe that the implementation is not well organized or managed.

On one hand, everyone is willing to fully participate, to give a strong commitment, but on the other hand we are very weak in implementing, in particular when it touches on our own interests. The consistent implementation of what we have committed to is another story.

We are very good in making concepts, commitments, principles, as long as they are for others, however when all this is applied to our own group, we are reluctant to accept it and are not consistent anymore. That's why, before July 5, 2004, besides studying the programs offered by the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates, let us examine carefully their past and current track records, their individual team, the proposed members of Cabinet, in terms of their application of all the three Cs of management.
