Apjati has new chief

JAKARTA: The Ministry of Manpower's Secretary-General, Baroto Sardadi, installed Abdullah Puteh as the chief of the Association of Labor Export Companies (Apjati) on Wednesday.

The two-day congress also elected Rusdi Bahasuan and Adi Putera Taher as Puteh's deputies, Anton Sihombing as the secretary-general and Adri P.H. Nelwan as treasurer.

It also appointed Soeramsihono as the association's board of advisors chief, with I. Ahmad Ganis and Suwoso as his deputies.

Baroto told the new executives to meet the country's target to export 1.25 million workers in a couple of years and contribute US$12.5 million in foreign exchange.

Puteh promised to reach the target by expanding the market and sending more workers. "We plan to simplify the export's bureaucracy," Puteh said. (ste)
