Antipolio drive for 951,900 babies

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration is targeting 951,900 under-fives in this year's second nationwide antipolio drive.

Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said yesterday that the number will hopefully exceed the target because there is a possibility that children living outside Jakarta will be immunized here.

"It is possible because in the first round last month 976,101 children were immunized or 2.54 percent more than the target," he said when initiating the project in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

The city administration established 9,135 immunization posts throughout Jakarta to immunize children in the second nationwide antipolio drive.

Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said yesterday that the posts are located in hospitals, community health centers, marketplaces, hotels and restaurants.

Therefore, he added, there is no reason for under-fives not to get the vaccine.

"All children must get the vaccine and please don't turn down children from other areas who come to get it," Surjadi told those involved in administering the drug. (yns)
