Anti-terrorist center inaugurated

JAKARTA: The city's anti-terrorism center was inaugurated on Friday by head of the City Public Order Agency Soebagio.

The center, located at the City Hall on Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, is jointly operated by the city administration and the anti-terrorism society (MPAT).

MPAT executive Adil Hakim said that the center will be open 24-hours to provide the public with information about terrorism. It will also receive information regarding suspected terrorist activity from the public.

The center, in which 45 volunteers will work in shifts, is financed by public contributions. Adil declined to specify the source of the donations nor the total amount.

Soon after the JW Marriot hotel bombing on Aug. 5, MPAT published an anti-terror pocket book, which detailed information on how to safeguard against terrorism and what to do if there is a terrorist attack. -- JP
