'ANteve' sports program wins award

JAKARTA (JP): ANteve sports program Majalah Olahraga was named
the best sports program yesterday at the 1997 Asian Television
Awards, beating Hong Kong's Omega Tour Highlights Show and
Singapore's The Sporting Life.

ANteve corporate communications manager Zoraya Perucha said
Majalah Olahraga was one of three Indonesian shows nominated for
the awards last December.

"But, it was ANteve's sports program which was declared the
best sports program and won the Asian Television Award '97," said
Zoraya, who was among the judges from Indonesia.

Majalah Olahraga is aired every Sunday from noon to 1 p.m.
with Monica and Martin Muhede as presenters.

The Asian Television Awards are an annual non-profit event to
encourage creative TV talent. It was organized by the Singapore-
based Television Asia magazine. There were, on average, three
nominations in each of the 23 categories.

Indonesian shows were nominated in three categories of the
1997 Asian Television Awards, tying with China and Malaysia at
fifth place for number of nominations.

The three were Majalah Olahraga, RCTI music show Dua Warna,
and SCTV children's program Krucil.

Heading the number of nominations list was Singapore with 26
nominations.

The Philippines followed with 18 nominations and Hong Kong was
third with seven nominations.

Korea took fourth place, while Thailand's one nomination
failed to make it into the finals.

Award categories included best news presenter, best current
affairs or magazine program presenter, and best performances by
actors and actresses in a drama. (02/ste)
