'ANteve' sports program wins award
JAKARTA (JP): ANteve sports program Majalah Olahraga was named the best sports program yesterday at the 1997 Asian Television Awards, beating Hong Kong's Omega Tour Highlights Show and Singapore's The Sporting Life.
ANteve corporate communications manager Zoraya Perucha said Majalah Olahraga was one of three Indonesian shows nominated for the awards last December.
"But, it was ANteve's sports program which was declared the best sports program and won the Asian Television Award '97," said Zoraya, who was among the judges from Indonesia.
Majalah Olahraga is aired every Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. with Monica and Martin Muhede as presenters.
The Asian Television Awards are an annual non-profit event to encourage creative TV talent. It was organized by the Singapore- based Television Asia magazine. There were, on average, three nominations in each of the 23 categories.
Indonesian shows were nominated in three categories of the 1997 Asian Television Awards, tying with China and Malaysia at fifth place for number of nominations.
The three were Majalah Olahraga, RCTI music show Dua Warna, and SCTV children's program Krucil.
Heading the number of nominations list was Singapore with 26 nominations.
The Philippines followed with 18 nominations and Hong Kong was third with seven nominations.
Korea took fourth place, while Thailand's one nomination failed to make it into the finals.
Award categories included best news presenter, best current affairs or magazine program presenter, and best performances by actors and actresses in a drama. (02/ste)
