The government announced on Friday the annual reports of PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) and Perum Pegadaian were the best annual reports produced by companies this year.
Antam, the country's largest nickel producer, won the 2003 Annual Report Award for the publicly listed company category, beating out Bank Danamon, Bank Niaga and insurance firm PT Asuransi Bintang, which came second, third and fourth respectively.
In the non-listed category, the government named the annual report of the country's largest pawn shop operator Pegadaian as the best. Toll operator PT Jasa Marga, developer PT Wijaya Karya and Bank Rakyat Indonesia came second, third and fourth respectively.
The annual event was organized by the Office of the State Minister for State Enterprises, the Directorate General of Taxation at the Ministry of Finance, the Capital Market Supervisory Agency (Bappepam), the Jakarta Stock Exchange, the Indonesian Accountants Association and the National Committee for Corporate Governance.
Former finance minister Mar'ie Muhammad, the chairman of the panel of judges, said the decisions were based on the panel's study of 84 audited financial reports for the 2002 fiscal year.
Of the reports, 56 belonged to listed private companies, 19 to non-listed state and local government-owned companies, and nine listed state-owned companies, he said.
The panel examined whether the annual reports complied with accounting principles and the relevant capital market regulations, reflected good corporate governance, and whether the firms had transparently furnished information to investors and the public.
Other members of the panel are the former minister of finance, Bambang Sudibyo, chairman of the Supreme Audit Board Arie Soelendro, tax expert Gunadi and stock analyst Goei Siauw Hong.
