Another 'ojek' driver killed

JAKARTA (JP): An ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver was found dead in Sepatan village, Bekasi, yesterday. He is believed to have been robbed by his fare.

An officer from the Bekasi police precinct, who asked not to be named, said the passenger killed his victim, identified as Tarsum, 45, before escaping on his motorcycle.

"Tarsum suffered severe wounds to his head and body," he said.

The victim was married with two small children. His wife sells food from a stall in front of their house in Babakan village, also in Bekasi.

Selamat, a friend of Tarsum's, said the victim was hired by a man on Sunday night who asked to be taken to the neighboring village of Bantar Gebang, East Bekasi.

Local police have reportedly taken in a number of individuals for questioning.

Tarsum's body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for a postmortem examination. (09)
