Angry mobs torch minivan, one killed

TANGERANG (JP): Residents torched a public minivan on Monday at 7th kilometer of Jl. Gatot Subroto in Jatiuwung subdistrict, here, after an accident in which an 11-year-old boy named M. Nurhasani was killed and six others were injured.

The driver, identified as Parmin, 24, was driving home at speed when a group of seven children playing in front of a restaurant tossed lit firecrackers onto the road.

Parmin reportedly failed to slow down and mowed into the crowd of children. Soon after the incident, he brought the victims to Tangerang Hospital's emergency unit, leaving his minivan by the side of the road.

Nurhasani died in the hospital while the other six children reportedly suffered minor injuries. Parmin turned himself over to the police later in the day.

Upon hearing the news, angry locals then set fire to the minivan. Its wreckage was taken to Jatiuwung Police station as evidence. (41/edt)
