Angry boyfriend hurts father

JAKARTA (JP): A young man tried to kill the father of his 14-
year-old girl friend on Tuesday after he was told to end their
love affair, the girl's mother said.

Sriyono, 37, a resident of Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta was
rushed to hospital after his right hand and the left part of his
back were severely injured by a machete.

According to Silina, the victim's wife, Sriyono was attacked
by Rusdi, 17, the boyfriend of their daughter, when he was
opening the front door at daybreak to let in fresh air. No sooner
had he opened the door than Rusdi attacked him with a machete.

Silina said her husband had repeatedly warned their daughter
to break up her relationship with the boy, known in the Kelapa
Dua neighborhood as an alcoholic and a drug addict. Sriyono had
warned Rusdi to stop courting his only daughter as they were too
young to fall in love.

"I still can't believe why that boy has the heart to hurt my
husband, and still can't understand why my daughter has fallen
for him," she told journalists at the hospital, adding that she
had not reported the case to the police. (01)
