Angkot drivers want road repaired

TANGERANG, West Java (JP): Dozens of Angkot (public minivan) drivers plying the Poris Gaga-Jl. Shaheh Ali route yesterday called on the City Council's local public works office to immediately fulfill its promise to repair one of the roads along the route.

"Unless prompt action is taken, the situation will get worse, as vehicles, including public minivans, will be forced to avoid the road," one of the drivers said. This will impair their daily earnings, he added.

Several representatives of the drivers, held up a poster reading: "Jl. Maulana Hasanudin badly needs repairing". They were received by four local legislators, including the chairman of Commission A, Ayat Sudayat.

During the meeting, the drivers complained that the road was so dilapidated that it was practically impassable.

They claimed that the Tangerang public works office has several times reneged on its promise to repair the road.

The two-hour meeting ended after the councilors gave assurances that they will soon contact the public works office and urge it to immediately repair the road.

"I assure you all that this time around, there will be no more empty promises. Your wishes will be granted," Ayat told the drivers. (18/bas)
