'Angkot' drivers strike in Bandung

BANDUNG: Some 1,000 public transportation drivers in Bandung went on strike on Thursday to demand that the government reverse a decision to make a number of two-way roads one way.

Endang Suganda, an angkot public minivan driver, said his earnings dropped significantly after the roads were made one way last month and therefore the ruling should be annulled.

Thousands of residents were stranded because of the strike, with the hardest hit being senior high school graduates who were due to take entrance tests for state universities. -- JP
