Angkot drivers stage protest

TANGERANG (JP): About 150 Angkot (minivan) No. 03 fleet drivers went to the City Council yesterday in protest over the local administration's plan to deploy more vehicles to serve a new route.

They said the plan to open a new route from Cikokol to Gading Serpong which will be served by Angkot No. R 19 fleets should be scrapped. "If the administration insists on opening the route it should be served by the Angkot O3 fleet," Herry, one of the drivers, told The Jakarta Post.

The drivers also asked that the company not allow Angkot number 06 A vehicles to pass through Jl. Raya Serpong. They complained that their earnings have been badly affected since the rival Angkot drivers were allowed to operate on the road.(18/bas)
