Andrian to defend IBF title

JAKARTA (JP): International Boxing Federation Intercontinental bantamweight champion Andrian Kaspari from Indonesia will defend his title in a match here on Friday against South African Marinki Booi.

"This will be my first encounter with South African boxing. I'll read his strategy in only one or two rounds," he said, declining to predict if he would knockout his opponent.

Twenty-six-year-old Andrian from Pirih boxing camp in Surabaya has an outstanding record with 24 out of 25 winning matches during his career. He won 22 of the 24 matches with knockouts.

Booi, who is two years older than Andrian, has won 17 out of 24 matches, 12 of them by knockouts.

The 12-round bout, part of the Gelar Tinju Professional program, will be aired by Indosiar private TV station at 10:30 p.m.

In the undercard matches, local boxer Soleh Sundava from the Red Cobra boxing camp in Bandung will challenge Luvoyo Mdisino of South Africa in the featherweight division.

Another match between Indonesian flyweight boxer Faisal Akbar from the Akas boxing camp in Probolinggo, East Java, and South African Ayanda Ramncwana will take place beforehand.

The two undercard matches are scheduled to be 10 rounds. (ivy)
