Tampa Bay Lightning attacker Dave Andreychuk set an NHL record with his 250th career power-play goal in Tampa's 4-2 win over the struggling San Jose Sharks in NHL action on Friday.

Andreychuk's record-breaking goal was the first of the game, coming at 9:43 of the opening frame on a pass from Brad Richards.

It was watched by former record holder Phil Esposito, who calls Lightning games on radio.

Ruslan Fedotenko's goal midway through the final period proved to be the game-winner.

Patrick Marleau got both Sharks goals.

The Lightning are now 10-4-2-1, the best start in franchise history.

In Buffalo, before as many as 5,000 Toronto fans who made the short drive, former Sabre Alexander Mogilny got a pair of second period goals to carry Toronto to a 3-2 win.

Mogilny, who still holds the Sabres' single-season record of 76 goals, scored twice in the period's final three minutes to put Toronto ahead to stay.

Sabres captain Stu Barnes got the game's opening marker late in the first period.

Toronto's Mikael Renberg evened it at 1-1 just minutes before Mogilny struck.

In Raleigh, North Carolina, the Hurricanes improved to 4-0-2-1 on their franchise-record nine-game homestand with a 1-1 tie with the slumping Philadelphia Flyers.

In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Jamie Langenbrunner put the Devils up 1-0 just 2:54 into the game, then got the game winner later in the period as New Jersey romped 5-1 over the Montreal Canadiens.

In Atlanta, the Thrashers were crushed 5-1 by the Phoenix Coyotes, failing in their bid to post four straight wins for the first time in their brief history.

In Detroit, Sergei Fedorov got his 11th goal on an assist from veteran blueliner Chris Chelios 4:39 into overtime to give the Red Wings a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

In Chicago, newcomer Chris Simon scored a goal with 86 seconds left in regulation to earn Chicago a 2-2 tie with the Washington Capitals, who dealt him to the Blackhawks just two weeks ago.

In Dallas, Mike Modano notched his 1,000th point in helping the host Stars to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

In Edmonton, the Oilers have finally found their scoring touch, as they put five past Blues netminder Fred Brathwaite, a former Oiler, in a 5-0 whitewash of St. Louis.
