Ancient skull, bones unearthed

DENPASAR: A team of archaeologists unearthed on Wednesday a pot containing a skull as well as six other human bones located 4.3 meters below ground in Pacung village of Buleleng regency, some 105 kilometers north of Denpasar, Bali.

Another skeleton has yet to be unearthed from a nearby site.

I Made Suastika, an archeologist of the Bali Archeological Body (BAB), theorized that the location was a 2,000-year-old cemetery.

Suastika concluded that they were civilized people, given the amount of equipment found at the location. The archeologists have found a number of bronze bracelets as well as farming and hunting equipment made from bones and stones.

The team has been excavating the area since Aug. 14. The skull and skeletons have been sent to BAB office for a thorough examination. -- JP
