Ananda finishes fifth in F-3

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian driver Ananda Mikola's dream of winning his first Formula Three title was still a long way away after he finished fifth at Italy's Monza circuit on Sunday.

Ananda, Indonesia's future Formula One hopeful, crossed the finish line behind Italy's Maurizio Mediani and Niki Cadei, Donny Crevel of the Netherlands and Gianluca Calgani, another Italian.

The Indonesian teenager ranked sixth in the drivers championship standings with 26 points after four races. Michele Gasaparini of Italy maintained his lead with 55 points, followed by Mediani (54), Cadei (45), Crevel (41) and Italy's Paolo Montin (38).

Antara reported that Ananda, who sported a Marlboro-RC Motorsport racing suit, appeared to be seeking revenge for his defeat to Montin in the previous race, only to see other drivers overtake him.

"When I saw Montin in the side mirror, I remembered the third series in Varano when he overtook me. I didn't want him to do that again, but it cost me the race," Ananda said. (yan)
