Anak Krakatau increasingly active
SERANG, West Java: Mount Anak Krakatau, a volcano standing in
the Sunda Strait, has been showing increasing activity -- marked
by occasional explosions -- since mid-February, local sources
said here Tuesday.
People living closest to the volcano have continually been put
under an "alert" status while tourists have been banned from
visiting it.
The sources told Antara since November 1992 when it spewed
lava, gravel and ash, the volcano had continued to be active all
year long. It kept on spewing lava and ash to a height of 1,000
meters.
