An attack on a woman's dignity

One of the reasons why robbery is so intolerable is because such an act does not discriminate which of the victim's body parts are injured. This happened to a 27-year old woman named Puspita living in Jakarta who was struck on the breast by one of four men who robbed her home on Jl. Wijaya III in the Gandaria Utara area of South Jakarta (The Jakarta Post, July 7, 2001).

Although I am not one of her relatives, I condemn such an inhuman offense against a woman for the following reasons: First, women should be highly respected because, like my mother, it is a woman, who first nurtures her newborn through her breast-milk. If the robbers were more humane, they would take care to avoid injuring female victims.

Second, we should respect women who, in this modern era, have played a great role in leading the country and in holding various important positions in countries such as the Philippines and Indonesia. Due to this reason, I agree if the perpetrator of such a crime is punished more severely than those who have committed other crimes because hurting or damaging a woman's breasts is unacceptable in any modern and civilized society.
