Museums and amusement parks are offering some alternatives for students looking to fill up their school holidays this week.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in East Jakarta has a program called Wira Budaya week, which will feature on Sunday a carnival of traditional soldiers from various provinces.

For those who are interested in traditional medicine or the mystic, the park is hosting daily performances of various traditional doctors and clairvoyants until the end of this week.

Another option is taking in the theater performance of the famous Sangkuriang folklore, which originates from West Java, at Tanah Airku theater in the park's compound on Friday and Sunday.

"We've designed these events especially for the school holiday season," said Jerry Lahama, a member of the public relations staff at the park.

Elementary and high school students across the country are on a one-week holiday after finishing the first quarter of the academic year.

At Bahari museum at Jl. Pasar Ikan 1, North Jakarta, students are invited to participate in a poetry reading competition that will be held on Sunday.

Saor Sitorus, a business administration staff member at the museum, said that the competition was limited to 100 participants, and the museum had registered 57 competitors.

The competition is only open to high school students.

Meanwhile, there is a youth band competition at SeaWorld, located in Ancol, North Jakarta, which will be held Saturday through Sunday.

"There is no age limit for the competition, but so far those who have registered are junior and senior high school students," said Dwi from the Sea World marketing department.

Dunia Fantasi (Fantasy World), opens an hour earlier, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

During the school holiday, Taman Ria Senayan at South Jakarta has an art stage for elementary school children and offers an entrance ticket at a special holiday price of Rp 10,000, which allows visitors access to the entire area.
