AMPG welcomes presidential aspirants

PADANG, West Sumatra: Seven presidential candidates from the
Golkar Party will gather here to attend the Golkar Younger
Generation (AMPG) Jamboree scheduled to take place between Sunday
and Friday next week.

The AMPG regional board said the seven presidential aspirants
were media baron Surya Paloh, Muhammadiyah chairman Syafii
Maarif, former Indonesian Military chief Gen. (ret) Wiranto,
businessman Aburizal Bakri, Coordinating Minister for People's
Welfare Yusuf Kalla, Minister of Transportation Agum Gumelar and
Golkar deputy chairman Fahmi Idris.

"They will participate as instructors in the event, which will
be followed by 1,500 AMPG members in the province, instead of
supporters," said AMPG regional chief Hendra Irawan Rahim on
Friday.

West Sumatra Governor Zainal Bakar and provincial Police Chief
Brig. Gen. Adang Firman will be among the speakers at the
jamboree, which is to be followed by a regional AMPG conference
before closing with a mass rally next Friday. -- Antara
