Amirul installed as Kopassus chief

JAKARTA (JP): Maj. Gen. Amirul Isnaini officially took over from Maj. Gen. Syahrir M.S. as the commander of Army Special Forces (Kopassus) on Tuesday.

Amirul was installed as the new chief of the elite force in a ceremony presided over by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Tyasno Sudarto at Kopassus headquarters in Cijantung, East Jakarta.

Syahrir will hold a new post as the operational assistant to the army chief of staff.

Amirul's promotion was part of the major reshuffle in the Indonesian Military last month, which also saw three regional military commanders removed.

Also present in Tuesday's ceremony were Army Strategic Reserves Commander Lt. Gen. Agus Wirahadikusumah and Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu. (dja)
