Amex disappoints new customer

I was terribly upset to realize that American Express charges interest even on current usage. When I called the Amex Customer Service Center and inquired why this is so, lo and behold, I was informed that it is in the system and therefore it is correct.

As a new Amex cardholder, and I think also for other Amex cardholders, this system/policy appears grossly unfair. The reason being, the previous month I made a partial payment and, therefore, even if I pay my current and past charges in the current month in full, I will be charged interest on the current and past charges. On the past charges, I fully agree that I should pay interest, but on current charges? Amex says I should and I vehemently disagree. For this reason, I am closing my Amex account, paying in full the unfairly charged interest. For other Amex cardholders, I encourage you to do the same. This unfairness should not be tolerated.
