Ambon refugees need relief aid

AMBON, Maluku: More than 8,100 refugees in Maluku capital have yet to receive the third package of relief aid the provincial government should have distributed last month, Antara reported on Tuesday.

Vonce Parinussa, chief of social affairs at the provincial administration, said the refugees accommodated in public buildings in the city had no alternative but to depend wholly on the aid relief package.

"I cannot imagine what will happen if the aid package does not reach the refugees this week," he said here on Tuesday.

Each refugee receives a package of humanitarian assistance containing Rp 45,000 in cash and 10 kilograms of rice. (rms)
