Alor rebuilding 60 percent completed

ALOR, East Nusa Tenggara: The Alor administration said on Wednesday that, although five months have passed since a huge earthquake hit the regency, only 60 percent of the rebuilding process has been completed.

Alor Regent Ans Takalapeta, blamed a funding shortage for the slow process.

"The central government has allocated so far, for example, money for the reconstruction of 1,130 buildings, while 5,000 buildings were in fact damaged by the earthquake," said Ans.

The earthquake, measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale, killed 36 residents and injured thousands of others. -- JP
