Allies make up bulk of donors

The presidential candidates' balance sheets of major donors to
their July 5 election campaign funds are as intriguing as they
are uninformative, with instances of unlikely donations from
unnamed "friends", small traders and wealthy patrons in out-of-
the-way places, The Jakarta Post has found.
Close aides and inner-circle party members made up the bulk of
the individual contributions to the funds.
Campaign fund balance sheets obtained by the Post on Saturday
show most of the candidates' close allies gave the maximum Rp 100
million (US$10,500) donation allowed from individual donors.
In a list of donors provided by Gen. (ret) Wiranto's campaign
team to the General Elections Commission (KPU), Golkar Party
central board executives Agung Laksono, Setya Novanto, Bomer
Pasaribu, Slamet Effendy Yusuf, Fahmi Idris, Bomer Pasaribu,
Abdul Gafur and Theo L. Sambuaga donated Rp 100 million each.
Also appearing on the list were Wiranto's lawyer, Yan Juanda
Saputra, who donated Rp 75 million, while another lawyer, Ruhut
Sitompul, and Wiranto's chief campaign strategist, Suaidy
Marasabessy, both contributed Rp 100 million.
All gave their addresses as the 27th floor of Menara Imperium
on Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, Kav. 1, Kuningan, Jakarta, where
Wiranto's campaign team is based.
The list also included a group of souvenir vendors who opened
stalls in the Menara Imperium's ground floor. They contributed a
whopping Rp 8 billion.
Wiranto put in Rp 4.95 billion of his own money into the
campaign, while Golkar provided Rp 30 billion.
The financial report filed for the Megawati Soekarnoputri-
Hasyim Muzadi ticket shows legislators Permadi, Heri Akhmadi and
Surya Chandra Surapatty donated Rp 100 million each. They were
each registered at their official residences in Kalibata, South
Jakarta.
How much Megawati and Hasyim gave for their own campaign was
not mentioned in the list. Nor was any donation from her
husband, gas station magnate Taufik Kiemas.
An individual donor living in Oklahoma City in the United
States, Putra Dedi Perana, also contributed Rp 100 million.
Also on the list were several individuals living in small
towns in Central Java, who managed to donate similar amounts of
money.
This pattern repeats in Hamzah Haz's campaign balance sheet
but a greater amount of funds from individuals are involved.
Hamzah's United Development Party (PPP) lawmaker Hadi Mulyo
and some anonymous "friends" were registered in the list of
donors contributing Rp 375 million in total. The election law
requires any donor to be clearly named.
Also on the list was Hamzah's aide, Laode Kamaluddin, and a
group of unnamed people who gave Rp 500 million.
Meanwhile Amien Rais camp's statement showed Rp 100 million
worth of contributions mostly coming from individuals from the
National Mandate Party (PAN)'s inner circle, with Rizal Jalil,
Joko Santoso, economist Dradjat Hari Wibowo, Miranty Abidin,
Samuel Koto, Djoko Susilo, Fuad Bawazier and A.M. Fatwa all
donating.
Amien's financial report also mentioned State Minister for
Research and Technology M. Hatta Rajasa and actor-cum-legislator
Dede Yusuf for the same amount.
Running mate Siswono Yudhohusodo, a weathly businessman,
provided a total of Rp 730 million for the campaign, with Amien
contributing Rp 1.9 billion.
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono balance sheet recorded campaign fund
manager, Suhaeli Kalla, and an individual named Gatot Suwondo as
contributing Rp 100 million each.
Running mate Jusuf Kalla's West Java's Bogor-based PT Bukaka
Teknik Utama and South Sulawesi's Makassar-based PT Hadji Kalla
each provided Rp 500 million to back their owner's vice
presidential bid.
