Alleged Yogyakarta bomber questioned

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Police are questioning Syaifulloh, 35, a suspect in several bombings five years ago.

The suspect has been questioned at Yogyakarta Police Headquarters since Monday. He was arrested last week in Poso regency, Central Sulawesi.

"Syaifulloh is being questioned and will be prosecuted in Yogyakarta ... because the bombings took place in Yogyakarta," said Brig. Gen. Bambang Aris Sampurno, the Yogyakarta Police chief.

Syaifulloh, who has links to the hard-line organization Indonesian Islamic State and is said to have received military- style training in Moro, the Philippines, was arrested as a suspect in several bombings in the city in 2000. The attacks left two people injured.

Syaifulloh was the alleged bomb maker and the person who carried out the attacks. His two alleged accomplices remain at large.-- JP
