Alleged thief burned to death

CILACAP, Central Java: Police deplored on Thursday the vigilantism of Mentasan villagers who burned an alleged chicken thief to death on Tuesday night.

Chief of the local police Lt. Col. Bambang Sudarisman said Karsino, 22, was burned alive after villagers caught him stealing chickens belonging to his neighbor Rasidin.

"We deplore this act of mass violence. They should have abided by the law," Bambang said.

He added that no arrests were made because it was difficult to identify suspects. "More than 100 people were involved in the incident."

Last month residents of another village in the regency, Gandurmangu, set a youth on fire for an alleged motorbike robbery. (45)
