Alleged spa thief in hot water with police

JAKARTA: A Singapore national identified as Tan Kheng Seng, alias Jeremy Tan, 34, has been detained by the Jakarta Police since Tuesday on suspicion of stealing items from lockers at spas in star-rated hotels.

Jakarta Police detectives chief Sr. Comr. Mathius Salempang said on Wednesday that Tan was suspected of breaking into lockers at spas in the Park Lane Hotel, Crown Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel and Peninsula Hotel.

The initial complaint was filed by the Park Lane Hotel management.

An investigation led police to Tan's residence in Karet Pedurenan, South Jakarta.

Police confiscated a number of stolen goods, including two Rolex watches, a Guy Laroche watch, a Gucci watch, an Olympus camera, three car keys and 16 belts.

Police also confiscated a pair of metal cutters and a screwdriver.
