Alleged fake money distributor nabbed

BOGOR: Cijeruk Police apprehended a suspected distributor of counterfeit money, while his accomplice managed to escape, an officer said on Wednesday.

Detective chief First Insp. Bektiana said Heri Chaerudin, 40, had once been imprisoned for a similar crime.

"He admitted that the two of them were about to go to Surabaya to open a counterfeiting business," Bektiani said.

In the arrest on Tuesday, the police confiscated six counterfeit Rp 100,000 (US$11) notes, printing machines and appliances.

Titi, a five-and-dime shop owner in Kampung Ciengkon, alerted the police to the crime. "They paid me with a Rp 100,000 note. After they left, I realized that the money was fake because the ink stained my fingers," she was quoted as saying by Antara.--JP
