YOGYAKARTA: Three persons allegedly involved in a string of explosions in Yogyakarta five years ago went on trial on Thursday.

During the first court session, the defendants were charged with plotting and executing the bombings and violating the law on state emergency, which carries a maximum sentence of death.

The three defendants in question were Syaifulloh, alias Wahyu Diarto, thought to be the man behind a post office bombing, Taufiqurrochman, suspected of bombing the Gede Mosque and Suhardi, who funded and plotted the bombings.
